Analyzing the football clubs of Luka Modric, Xavi, and Iniesta when they were 37 years old
During the summer, Modric inked an extension to his contract with Real Madrid, opting for an additional season with the club despite a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia. Under Carlo Ancelotti’s leadership, he has retained his status as a pivotal midfielder, solidifying his legacy as one of the all-time greats in the sport.
Nonetheless, in the current season, Luka Modric has started just one out of four games for Los Blancos, although he has seen action in each match, accumulating a total of 133 minutes on the field. Modric expressed his feelings in an interview with Sportske Novosti (as reported by Marca), acknowledging that the situation hasn’t unfolded as he had anticipated.
Modric candidly shared that it felt rather peculiar to find himself warming the bench, especially considering that Real Madrid had assured him of ample playing time when they urged him to remain with the club.
Modric is attempting to hold onto his spot in what is undoubtedly the world’s most talented group of midfielders. Toni Kroos, another veteran, is vying for a spot in the starting lineup while Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham have firmly established themselves as starters.
Despite receiving limited playing time at Real Madrid, Luka Modric remains a crucial figure within the team. Similarly, Xavi was active in Qatar at the age of 37, and Andres Iniesta was still playing in Japan at the same age.
