Bauchi Police arrest 1,460 suspects for kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, others. According to Umar Sanda, the commissioner of police for Bauchi State, 1,460 suspects in 722 instances including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and other crimes have been detained.

He said that among the items found during the last nine months were six AK-47 riffles, 23 Dane rifles, 20 locally produced revolvers, and 145 rounds of live ammo.

At the opening ceremony of a one-day campaign titled: “Police Public Complaints Committee (PPCC) Sensitization campaign,” hosted by the Ministry of Police Affairs on Thursday evening, Sanda delivered this message of goodwill on behalf of Inspector General of Police Usman Baba.

In addition to being timely, the campaign, according to him, would improve and enrich accountability in the country’s policing system, particularly at this important moment when a reliable and effective police service is required.

He praised the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired), and the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba, for their resolve and vision in leading the unwavering push to reform the police force so that it complies with international norms and best practices from around the world.

This is demonstrated by the Nigeria Police Force’s recent accomplishments in dealing with disciplinary-related issues including extortion, abuse of authority, corruption, and other instances of officers and men of the force acting in an unprofessional manner while interacting with members of the public.

As a result, from the time I took over as the 43rd Commissioner of Police in Bauchi on November 29, 2021, until now, the Command has kept track of 722 cases and detained more than 1,460 people in connection with a variety of crimes perpetrated both inside and outside the State.

He said that “The Command was able to free fifty-five (55) abducted victims from their kidnappers.”

According to him, the suspects also had 45 machetes, 14 motorbikes, five computers, ten Keke NAPEP, 81 blocks of cannabis, 101 different phones, as well as cash exhibits totaling N7,193,000.

“At this point, it is important to note that the aforementioned successes were made possible through actionable intelligence from members of the public,” he continued. “They, as partners in progress, share our desires and aspirations to maintain a safe and secure environment for all law-abiding citizens in the state and Nigeria in general.
