EFCC warns Niger Delta Ministry, NDDC against corruption. The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have been instructed to avoid corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Bawa urged careful use of the resources allotted to the government, urging that money provided for particular projects be used for those purposes only.

The advice was given at the 5th National Council on Niger Delta in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom, by the anti-corruption chief, who was represented by Uzo Zonal Commander Hamidu Bawa.

The senior police officer promised that the EFCC would always see to it that the proper use of public monies was made.

The figures of South-South NDDC projects that have been abandoned and unpaid taxes, according to Bawa, are concerning.

“The town now has a new sheriff. The NDDC must accept this fact and understand that things can no longer be done as normal.

“Proceeds of crime have been forfeited” and “certain personnel identified as having mishandled and embezzled government money” have been prosecuted.

He said that the EFCC will pursue corrupt activities and urged staff to act morally at all times to prevent issues.

The chairman urged attendees and Nigerians to support the federal government’s whistleblowing policy.

Bawa pleaded with organizations to set up a secure mechanism for reporting internal fraud and other types of wrongdoing.
