EPL Steve Nicol sympathizes with Liverpool, identifies Reds’ major problem. The late Steve Nicol expressed sympathy for Liverpool in the midst of manager Jurgen Klopp’s midfield’s injury issue. Nicol said that the reason Liverpool is having trouble this year is due of Klopp’s reliance on James Milner and Harvey Elliott in the middle of the field.

Due to the injuries to players like Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Klopp is presently relying on Milner and Elliot to accompany Fabinho in the midfield.

Liverpool’s humiliating 4-1 loss to Napoli in the Champions League midweek saw Milner and Elliott start for the Reds.

In terms of the injuries, “there’s no doubt that you have to feel bad for Liverpool,” Nicol told ESPN FC.

He said, “You have to play James Milner, who effectively signed a contract to be able to come in for 30 minutes and give other players a break. They requested James Milner to do it since that is what his new contract was for.

“But Harvey Elliott is a rookie, and he has to play in your biggest game of the year. When you have two of your midfielders in the situation they are in, one with little experience and one with too much experience, the engine room is going to have problems because this man is still learning his craft.
