I joined politics to change the system not to defend PDP history – Singer Banky W
I joined politics to change the system not to defend PDP history – Singer Banky W. Banky W, a well-known former actor and musician in Nigeria who is now a politician, has said that he entered politics to effect change rather than to uphold the People’s Democratic Party (PDP(past). )’s
This was stated by Banky W in an interview on Wednesday’s episode of “The Morning Show” on Arise TV.
The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the House of Representatives for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency said, “I have engaged in nonviolent protests much like everyone else I know among my peers. I am passionate about building a better Nigeria.
However, activism and lobbying are meant to bring about betterment, so if you haven’t noticed the change you’re looking for, your activism is insufficient.
“As a result, the message began to shift for me, from simply raising awareness through action and lobbying, to suggesting that we need to start transitioning from protests to politics.
This is where my mindset began to shift, and in 2018 I began to believe that the problem in Nigeria is top-down and the solution is from the bottom up. “We have to start taking these energies and channeling them toward getting like-minded people into the government and using that consensus of like-minded people to get a change,” I said.
“And I began to question myself, ‘Who am I waiting for to be engaged in the system?’ if with my education, success, background, audience, following, and voice I couldn’t put my neck out that I can be a part of this system and can bring a solution to the table?
So, in 2018, after praying about it, I told my wife. She responded, “You know politics in Nigeria is dirty, and I know your heart, and I know the system is what it is, and I don’t want anything that will soil your hands.’ I told her that the reality is that politics will always be dirty and dangerous until good people start to be intentional about it.
