Imo poll: Thugs assault and open fire on the convoy of PDP candidate Anyanwu.

On Saturday, gunmen reportedly assaulted the convoy of Samuel Anyanwu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Imo State governorship election. The incident occurred in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State. The convoy was ambushed around 5 pm by heavily armed men who fired upon it from all directions. Some of Anyanwu’s aides reportedly suffered injuries of varying degrees.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu is reported to have narrowly escaped the attack. Videos obtained by reporters depict the convoy vehicles, including two security cars, riddled with bullets.

Addressing journalists, Samuel Anyanwu called for the annulment of the election, asserting that both INEC and security agents had failed in their constitutional duty to ensure a fair election for the state’s residents. According to him, security agents allegedly prioritized safeguarding INEC staff while members of the APC manipulated the results.

Anyanwu adamantly declared his refusal to accept the election results, citing evidence that one of the thugs involved was a member of the House of Assembly. He claimed to possess the lawmaker’s Identity Card, which reportedly fell off during the ballot box snatching incident.

Anyanwu urged INEC to carefully consider the presented evidence and invalidate the election results in the affected areas.
