Imo State Gubernatorial Election: ICPC Detains INEC Official Found in Possession of a Stack of Cash.

An Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official has been apprehended by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) during the Imo State gubernatorial election for being in possession of a significant amount of money.

The incident occurred at Polling Unit 005, Township Primary School, Ikenegbu 1, in the Owerri Municipal Local Government Area. The money was allegedly offered to the official by an undisclosed party for the purpose of vote-buying.

In response to potential electoral malpractices, the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) deployed officers to monitor off-cycle elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa.

Reports indicate that during the off-cycle election in Kogi State, party agents resorted to providing financial incentives to voters in Lokoja, situated approximately 500 meters from the polling units, in exchange for their support for respective candidates.
