INEC Assures Election wont be affected by Labor Strike
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed that the planned nationwide strike by organized labor will not impact the governorship elections scheduled for November 11 in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states. Emanuella Ben-Opara, the Head of the Department of Voter Education and Publicity at Imo State INEC, assured the public of the election’s preparedness during a press briefing in Owerri.
Ben-Opara clarified that the Commission received assurance from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which is not affiliated with the labor union. Vehicles sourced from the NURTW are already on-site to facilitate the transportation of personnel and materials to all polling units.
Additionally, she revealed that all Registration Area Centers have been activated for the timely deployment of both sensitive and non-sensitive materials on Friday night. Emphasizing security measures, Ben-Opara stated that potential flashpoints have been identified by security agencies, assuring residents of a secure environment throughout the entire electoral process.
