Kaduna 2023 NNPP drags INEC to court, wants APC guber candidate, Sani disqualified
Kaduna 2023 NNPP drags INEC to court, wants APC guber candidate, Sani disqualified. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been sued by the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) Kaduna State branch.
It is requesting that Senator Uba Sani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor, be disqualified due to alleged electoral irregularities in the primary election that was place on May 27, 2022.
All parties requested an extension of time to allow them to prepare and reply to the move on notice when the matter came up for discussion before Justice Hadiza R. Shagari of the Federal High Court, Kaduna, on Friday.
Mr. Wole Agunbiade served as the head of the NNPP legal team (SAN). Attorney Sule Shuaibu represented the APC, and Attorney Halima Gachi represented the INEC.
As a result, Justice Shagari postponed hearing the matter until September 15, 2022.
Wole Agunbiade noted that they wanted to make sure that the INEC acted properly when speaking to reporters through a member of his legal team immediately after the court hearing.
Because the APC did not have a legitimate primary poll, he said that the INEC shouldn’t have revealed the candidate’s identity.
“NNPP is disputing the conduct of the APC primary election for governor held on May 27, 2022,” he underlined.
The APC’s primary election for governor was declared won by Senator Uba Sani.
He received 1,149 votes, defeating Bashir Abubakar, a former Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) of Customs, who received 37. With 10 votes, Alhaji Mahmood Sani Shaaban won.
