Man United Fans Claim Bruno Fernandes Is Better Than ‘Prime’ Frank Lampard After Hat-Trick Vs Leeds United.
The 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been showered with praise for his scintillating impact at Old Trafford since his £47m move from Sporting CP in 2020.
Fernandes scored an impressive 28 times and registered 17 assists in 58 appearances across all competitions last season.
The United star failed to impress during international duty with Portugal in this summer’s Euro 2020, but he was back to his best for the Red Devils’ opening Premier League match.
Fernandes fired United into the lead in the first half before Luke Ayling pulled back a stunning equaliser for Marcelo Bielsa’s men only minutes into the second half.
Mason Greenwood restored United’s lead in the second half, with Fernandes adding his second and third in the 54th and 60th minute respectively.
Fred added his name to the scoresheet in the 68th minute as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men thrashed Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Fernandes‘ superb hat-trick led to United fans taking to social media to boldly claim that he was better than Lampard during his prime Chelsea years.
Lampard won three Premier League titles, a Champions League, a Europa League, four FA Cups and two League Cups during a remarkable 13-year playing career at Stamford Bridge.
The 43-year-old former Chelsea manager is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in Premier League history alongside Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard.
United boss Solskjaer praised “risk-taker” Fernandes for his performance against Leeds.
Speaking after the match, he told BT Sport: “He’s a risk-taker, he’s a Man United player. When you’re a forward at United, you have to have confidence, a little bit of arrogance and take risks.
“When you have the quality he’s got, players give him decent chances to be fair!”
