Obasanjo reveals secret of longevity. Older people who want to live a long life should not separate themselves from community society, according to former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
The 84-year-old Obasanjo claimed that one of the factors contributing to his good health and befittingly advanced age is his positive relationships with the local community.
The elderly man made these remarks on Wednesday when hosting some older persons at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, under the auspices of the Tony Anini Varieties Centers of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
He believed that having a connection to a community society would assist the elderly live long lives and influence their social lives.
He also suggested that older people have a balanced diet, get enough of rest, exercise regularly, get ongoing medical checks, and engage in social activities.
“There are reasons why we haven’t been taking good care of our elderly. Where are our children today? According to our culture and tradition, we should be caring for our grandkids and spending time with our children. They’ve all been to other countries.
“We must adapt to changing circumstances. Obasanjo stated that when people mature, they should have social groups they can identify with.
Dr. Kunmi Idowu, the President of the Tony Anini Varieties Center UCH Ibadan Elders Club, criticized lawmakers for not paying enough attention to older folks and said that they should receive special care.
