Troops intercept 98 parcels of cannabis in Yobe. 98 packets of Cannabis Sativa worth millions of Naira were being transported in a vehicle that was being stopped by members of the 159 Task Force Battalion in Geidam, Yobe State.

This information was provided to reporters on Monday at the presentation of the exhibits to representatives of the National Drug Law Endorsement Agency (NDLEA) in the state by Brig. Gen. Umar Muaza, Chief of Staff, Sector Operation Hadin Kai, Damaturu.

According to him, the courier who was transporting the illegal substances got out of his car and fled when he saw troops on patrol.

Ogar Peter, who represented the NDLEA Yobe State Command in receiving the 98 seized packages, claimed that each one has a street value of more than N50,000.

“We are quite happy that this quantity is no longer in circulation. It may have been used to fuel security issues if it had reached its intended target, the speaker added.

Peter continued by saying that the forces’ seizure of the illegal substances demonstrated the degree of cooperation amongst the state’s operative security agencies.

“In the continuous struggle and fight against the scourge of drug trafficking, the Nigerian military has been incredibly supportive.

We’ll keep coming to your door for further assistance, he added.
