Why I don’t celebrate goals – Taiwo Awoniyi

Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, has shared the reason behind his lack of goal celebrations.

He explained that his restrained goal celebrations are not intentional but rather a result of a deeper understanding. Awoniyi mentioned that he had a conversation with a close friend who knows him well, and this friend helped him realize why he refrains from celebrating goals.

In his words:

“To be honest, it’s not something I consciously plan. However, I had a discussion with a close friend who truly understands me on a personal level, and he shed light on why I don’t typically celebrate when I score goals.

“It’s like following a script, you know. Sometimes, when you are fully aware that something is meant to happen and then it actually occurs, it’s as if you’ve already seen it unfold. It becomes more of a natural occurrence, something you anticipated.

“Even when others may not foresee it happening, you’ve already envisioned it. So, when it eventually does happen, there’s a sense of calmness that accompanies it.”

Awoniyi is currently with the Super Eagles in Uyo, preparing for Nigeria’s upcoming AFCON qualifier match against Sao Tome & Principe on Sunday.
